The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has appointed Dean Cullen, chief executive and managing director of Adica Insurance, as a non-executive director on its board, effective Monday.
Cullen has led Adica Insurance since July 2020 and brings 30 years of experience across banking, intermediated distribution and direct-to-customer insurance.
Before joining Adica, he held senior management roles at QBE Insurance, National Australia Bank and ANZ Bank, with responsibility for financial institution programmes across personal and commercial lines.
He is also chair of the Rural Financial Counselling Service Board in Victoria.
Adica is the local operating name of Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Company Australia, part of Japan’s MS&AD Insurance Group. The insurer provides motor and other partner-distributed insurance products in Australia.
The ICA said Cullen’s experience across banking, broker and direct channels, as well as his work supporting rural and regional communities, would support the board as the industry responds to consumer-protection issues, inflation and intensifying extreme weather.
Cullen joins an ICA board chaired by Suncorp Group chief executive and managing director Steve Johnston, who took up the chair in January 2025.
