Markel has appointed Galvin Hu as Marine Hull and War Lead, the specialty (re)insurer announced in a media release on Wednesday.
Before joining Markel, Hu had served at First Capital Insurance since 2006, including most recently as Deputy Manager for Marine Hull.
Commenting on the appointment, Wanshi Lin, Head of Singapore at Markel, said, “Galvin’s wealth of experience in marine hull underwriting and strong relationships within the industry will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our marine capabilities in Singapore and across the region.”
Kevin Leung, Chief Underwriting Officer for Asia, added that Hu’s “deep technical expertise and proven track record in marine underwriting” will make him a strong addition to the business.
The move is the latest in Markel’s efforts to expand its marine presence in the region. Last week, it announced the appointment of Alice Leong as its new Head of Marine Liabilities.
