Zurich Insurance has appointed Theo Pitsikas as Head of SME Asia Pacific, effective 16 June 2025, the business announced in a media release on Thursday (15 May).
Pitsikas currently serves as Head of SME for Zurich Financial Services Australia and has overseen Zurich’s SME portfolio in Australia and New Zealand for the past eight years. Prior to joining the business, he gained industry experience at Suncorp and Allianz.
For the new role, Pitsikas will relocate from Sydney to Singapore, where he will report to Sean Walker, Head of Commercial Insurance & Chief Technical Officer for APAC.
Commenting on the strategic appointment, Walker noted that SMEs are the backbone of Asia Pacific, but face mounting challenges in an increasingly complex risk environment. “Theo’s appointment is a strategic step forward as we accelerate plans to scale our support to this vital sector,” Walker said.
In its announcement, Zurich said that Pitsikas will focus on modular products for segments including micro SMEs and trades, portfolio underwriting, and platform development. The insurer also noted that the SME business in markets such as India, Malaysia, and Indonesia will be an area of strategic attention.
The new appointment comes with Zurich this week announcing two other key promotions, with Christy Yeo and Wendy Ong promoted to Head of Property, Singapore and Head of Financial Lines, Singapore, respectively.
It also comes with the insurer having yesterday announced a new personal cyber insurance product in Hong Kong, which covers risks such as identity theft, online fraud, and cyber extortion.
