Ramakrishnan Chander has been named as the new Chief Investment Officer of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India, the company announced Friday (6 June).

Chander, who most recently served as Executive Director of LIC’s Strategic Business Unit for International Operations, will now oversee the performance and innovation of India’s largest investment portfolio. His term runs until his superannuation on 30 September 2027.

He has been with the state-run life insurer since 1990, having held roles including Assistant Administrative Officer and Senior Divisional Manager in Nagpur and Hyderabad. He has also served as Regional Manager for Marketing in the South Zone and for Pension and Group Schemes in the South Central Zone.

Chander’s promotion follows the appointment of Dinesh Pant and Ratnakar Patnaik as Managing Directors of LIC.

In May, LIC achieved a Guinness World Record for Most Life Insurance Policies Sold in 24 hours, after the firm reported nearly 600,000 life insurance policies on 20 January 2025.
