Canopius has appointed Micia Yong as Head of Property & Specialty Treaty APAC, effective 4 July 2025, the specialty (re)insurer announced on Wednesday.

Singapore-based Yong joins from Gallagher Re, where she served as Executive Director, Strategic Solutions for APAC. During her time there, she led work in retro broking, MGA development, and structured solutions. In 2023, Lloyd’s named her Treaty Broker of the Year.

Yong will report to Soon Keen (SK) Lee, CEO APAC & MENA, and will oversee the APAC Property & Specialty Treaty portfolio, driving the firm’s reinsurance capabilities and introducing innovative solutions for clients.

Commenting on the appointment, Lee says that Yong’s extensive experience and understanding of the APAC reinsurance landscape make her a key addition to the team. “Her track record in property treaty underwriting, along with her expertise in retro broking and structured reinsurance solutions, will be instrumental in advancing our reinsurance offering and supporting our growth ambitions in the region.”

Yong has over 16 years of experience in reinsurance underwriting and broking across Asia Pacific, with previous roles including senior underwriting positions at Munich Re and Axis Speciality, as well as broking experience at Guy Carpenter.

Yong’s new role follows key appointments Canopius Group has made in APAC in recent times, including last month when it appointed Brodie English as Head of Casualty for Australia and New Zealand, and Rob Barnum as Head of Financial Lines for the Asia Pacific region, both effective 1 June.
