AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd has named Mohd Asri bin Omar as its new chief executive officer, effective 11 August 2025.
Omar returns to AIA after working for Hong Leong MSIG Takaful Berhad for around six years as its Chief Executive Officer. He previously held a number of senior leadership roles as part of AIA Public Takaful, including Head of Governance and Strategy.
Omar has over 27 years of experience in the insurance and takaful sector, bringing expertise in agency distribution, business strategy, legal affairs, and Shariah governance.
Welcoming back Omar, Ben Ng, Chief Executive Officer of AIA Malaysia, said, “His vast industry experience and strong Shariah credentials make him well-positioned to lead AIA PUBLIC Takaful into its next phase of growth … With Asri onboard, we look forward to accelerating the expansion of our professional Takaful agency force.”
Omar’s return is among several leadership changes for the AIA Group in the APAC region over the past couple of months. In June, the Group announced that Mark Tucker will be succeeding Edmund Sze-Wing Tse as chairman, effective 1 October. Meanwhile, in July, AIA Australia appointed Susan Looi as its Chief Risk Officer.
