The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) has announced Katrina Shanks as its new Chief Executive Officer, starting in 2024.
Shanks will relocate from New Zealand to Melbourne in the coming months, working closely with outgoing CEO Prue Willsford to ensure a smooth transition. Her new role is set to begin officially on January 8th 2024.
Shanks has extensive and diverse experience, including roles at Westpac Trust and Newton Fund Management in London. She ran her own accountancy business for seven years and was the Financial Controller for the New Zealand National Party.
Over the past five years, Shanks has been the CEO of Financial Advice NZ. In a statement, ANZIIF credited her with being key in influencing legislative and regulatory changes within New Zealand’s financial advisory sector during her time there.
She also brings political experience to the table, having served in the legislative process as a Member of Parliament for two terms.
“I am delighted that Katrina will be joining ANZIIF”, said Ben Bessell, ANZIIF President. “Katrina has a fantastic background and is experienced in a range of industries and environments. Her tenure in politics and a range of industry associations will provide ANZIIF with the leadership and capability to continue to grow and deliver the strategic objectives of the Board and members in Australia, New Zealand, and Asia.”
In response to her appointment, Shanks expressed her excitement about her new role, highlighting ANZIIF’s crucial role in the insurance and finance sectors. “ANZIIF is the leading provider of education, training, and development which ensures the insurance and finance sector has the skills, knowledge, and competency to thrive. I am excited to be joining a high performing team dedicated to enabling the delivery of high-quality education and standards,” she said.
“ANZIIF plays an important role in ensuring that their members are inspired to continue on a journey of lifelong learning to stay relevant and up to date so they can continue to make a difference in people’s lives. I am looking forward to being part of this journey with the members,” added Shanks.
