Australia’s Market Lane Insurance Group has appointed Bobby Major as Head of ML Specialty.

Major moves into the role after almost three years with the broker’s partnerships and engagement team, where he most recently served as ANZ region manager and was responsible for business development activities across Australia and New Zealand.

Prior to joining Market Lane in 2023, Major held placement broking roles at Gallagher and worked as an associate broker at Aon. Earlier in his career, he spent time in broking positions in London, including roles at Besso and European Insurance and Reinsurance Brokers.

In a statement on Wednesday, Market Lane said Major’s “industry knowledge, strong broker relationships and deep understanding of our business make him ideally positioned to lead the continued growth of ML Specialty.”

The appointment follows a period of expansion at the Australian MGA group, including the launch of ML Specialty in May 2025, with current offerings spanning Product Contamination and SME Product Recall cover, focused on the food and beverage industry. Also in May last year, Market Lane launched Square Mile Corporate Risks, which property and liability risks from A$5m.

In March, the group announced a wave of leadership appointments, promoting Toby Salmon to managing director and deputy CEO, Shane Golding to group head of casualty, and Matthew Porteous to group head of engagement and strategy.
