Global: Anne Marie Elder appointed CUO of AXA XL’s newly created Global Specialty branch

Anne Marie Elder has been named as the new Global Chief Underwriting Officer for AXA XL’s Specialty branch, effective from 1 April.

This newly created role is part of the company’s also newly established Global Specialty branch, which falls under the Global Chief Underwriting Office (GCUO).

Elder will be based in Hartford, Connecticut, and report directly to Libby Benet, the Global Chief Underwriting Officer. Her role will involve leading the strategic direction and supporting the growth of AXA XL’s Marine, Aerospace, and Specialty Niche portfolios.

Benet commented on the appointment, “Anne Marie brings a wealth of market knowledge, insight and technical expertise gained from over 30 years in the insurance industry. Her underwriting management skills and strong leadership will be invaluable in helping us achieve our global growth ambitions and further enhance our offering to clients in the specialty market.”

Elder joined AXA XL in 2011 and has served as Global Chief Underwriting Officer, Marine, since 2019. Her experience in the industry includes significant roles at The Hartford, Allianz, and CNA Insurance. Elder also serves on the board and executive committees of several marine insurance organizations and associations and is an alum of the United States Merchant Marine Academy and served in the United States Naval Reserve.
