China Pacific Insurance (CPIC) has introduced the country’s first insurance product tailored specifically for the commercial application of humanoid robots, according to a press release on 15 October.

Developed by CPIC’s Ningbo branch, the product aims to bridge the “last mile” between technological innovation and market adoption, offering risk coverage for companies involved in deploying humanoid robots.

Ningbo, a key base for advanced manufacturing, is positioning itself as a national hub for humanoid robot development and embodied intelligence innovation. However, concerns over potential damage, liability, and affordability have posed barriers to wider commercial use. The new offering seeks to address these issues by providing flexible and comprehensive protection.

The insurer said the product features key innovations. It offers end-to-end protection covering production, sales, leasing and use, strengthening resilience across the supply chain. It also provides integrated cover for physical damage, third-party liability and property loss, and allows flexible policy terms so businesses can insure on a daily, weekly or monthly basis according to their operational needs.

Industry observers said the launch supports the development of Ningbo’s intelligent manufacturing sector and may serve as a reference for similar initiatives in other regions.

The product is also expected to contribute to the broader application of humanoid robots in industrial and commercial settings.
