FWD Group has marked its 13th anniversary with 13 charitable grants aimed at supporting more than 13,000 people across Asia.

The Hong Kong-listed life and health insurer said the grants will fund community initiatives across financial literacy, career readiness, entrepreneurship, health and wellbeing, and disaster recovery.

The programmes will be carried out across Hong Kong, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

In Hong Kong, FWD will extend the JA SparktheDream Wellness Programme with Junior Achievement Hong Kong, supporting 2,600 primary school students through workshops and family activities focused on social, emotional and financial skills.

It will also support children, caregivers, students, parents and teachers affected by the Tai Po fire through programmes with Save the Children Hong Kong and Plan International Hong Kong, including psychosocial support, community-building initiatives and football-based wellbeing activities.

In Vietnam, the group will back financial literacy workshops and debate competitions for 800 students, while also providing 76 computers to schools in Khanh Hoa Province to help 1,800 students continue learning after severe flooding.

Other grants include financial education for 200 young people in Cambodia, entrepreneurship support for 10 female entrepreneurs in Indonesia, cancer screening and financial literacy support for low-income families in Malaysia, and workforce readiness training for 100 university students in the Philippines.

FWD will also support visually impaired people in Japan through football clinics, children with chronic illnesses and caregivers in Singapore, and disadvantaged youth and educators in Thailand through hospitality scholarships and financial literacy training.

Huynh Thanh Phong, group chief executive officer and executive director of FWD Group, said: “At FWD Group, changing the way people feel about insurance is about much more than looking after our customers – it’s also about supporting the communities where we operate.”

He added that the grants were “a meaningful way to give back to the people and places that have been part of our journey.”

FWD was established in 2013 and now operates across 10 markets in Asia. The group listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in July last year under stock code 1828.
