Specialty (re)insurer Canopius has appointed Charles Cooper as its Global Head of Reinsurance and CEO of Canopius’s Bermudian entities.
Starting September 1st, Cooper will report to the Chief Executive Officer of Canopius Group, Neil Robertson.
He will be responsible for driving Canopius’s global reinsurance business strategy and will work closely with his team in Bermuda, London and Singapore to deliver growth for the business.
In 2021, the group was granted a Class 4 Reinsurer license by the Bermuda Monetary Authority, which significantly expanded the business’ scope and allows Canopius to take advantage of more market opportunities. Robertson also has a specific remit to further develop Canopius’ Bermuda platform.
Cooper has worked in the Bermudian reinsurance sector for nearly 20 years and is one of the island’s most respected senior executives, according to Canopius Group.
In his last role, he was the Reinsurance Chief Executive for Bermuda at AXA XL and directed the business’ global reinsurance operations as a member of the AXA XL leadership team and AXA Partners Group since 2018.

On the move, Cooper said, “I am looking forward to leading a very talented team of reinsurance professionals across Canopius’s businesses in London, APAC and here in Bermuda”.
Canopius is headquartered in London and has underwriting operations in Australia, Bermuda, China, Singapore, the UK, and the US.
