Japan P&I Club on Monday announced a raft of organisational and personnel changes effective a of July 2024.

In a press release, the owners’ mutual protection & indemnity association said that Yasuyuki Nakamura will now assume the role of General Manager, Kobe Branch. Previously, Nakamura had held the dual position of General Manager for both the Kobe and Fukuoka branches.

Aligned with this change, Koji Shikada will take over as General Manager of the Fukuoka Branch.

Additionally, Yoshiro Sakamoto will join as Assistant General Manager, Planning Department, on secondment from Mitsui O.S.K. Lines.

Nakamura, Shikada, and Sakamoto’s new roles are effective as of 1 July 2024.

Structural changes

Japan P&I Club also announced several structural changes that have been implemented and will be effective as of 24 July.

The Underwriting Management Department will be established under the Head of Underwriting Units, the P&I Club said.

This new department will include the Underwriting Management Team, which will take over the functions of the Underwriting Administration Team from the Underwriting Administration Department.

Consequently, the Underwriting Administration Department will be renamed as the Reinsurance and Regulatory Affairs Department, consisting of the newly named Reinsurance and Regulatory Affairs Team.

The Claims Management Department will now be set up under the Head of Claims Units. This new department will include the Claims Management Team, which will assume the functions of the Quality Control Team from Claims Department II.

The Claims Teams in the Kobe and Imabari branches will now report to Claims Department I and Claims Department II.

The functions of the LNG Team and the Offshore Business Team from the Strategic Sales Management Department will be transferred to the Head of Underwriting Units and the Head of Claims Units.

Personnel Changes effective 24 July

In line with Japan P&I’s structural changes, Riki Yamamoto will become General Manager of both the Reinsurance and Regulatory Affairs Department and the Underwriting Management Department. He was previously General Manager of the Underwriting Administration Department.

Hiroaki Sawabe takes over as General Manager of the Kobe Branch, moving from his previous role as Assistant General Manager, Claims Department II.

Yasuyuki Nakamura will become Assistant General Manager, Tokyo Underwriting Department, having previously served as General Manager, Kobe Branch.

Naoki Hashimoto will be appointed Deputy Head of Claims Units, General Manager of the Claims Management Department, and Team Leader of the Claims Management Team. He previously held multiple roles, including Deputy Head of Claims Units and General Manager, Claims Department II.

Keisuke Yagisawa will continue as Deputy Head of Claims Units and General Manager, Claims Department I, while also becoming Team Leader of the FD&D/Legal Team.

Masatoshi Fukushima will be promoted to Deputy Head of Claims Units, General Manager, Claims Department II, and Team Leader of the Tokyo Crew Team.

Royston Deitch will continue as Executive Representative and Head of IG Matters, while also becoming General Manager of the Reinsurance and Regulatory Affairs Department.

Tetsu Kato will be appointed Assistant General Manager, Claims Management Department.

While Kensuke Ijichi will take on the role of Assistant General Manager, Claims Department I.
