Joanna Quigan has moved to Markel as Senior Underwriter, Professional and Financial Risks, the specialty (re)insurer announced on Wednesday, 2 July.

Quigan brings 20 years of industry experience and has relocated to Melbourne for the role, joining after nearly six years with Delta Insurance in New Zealand, where she most recently served as Senior Liability Underwriter and Cyber Product Lead.

In her new role, she reports to Kym Beazleigh, the region’s Head of Professional and Financial Risks, and is tasked with developing and managing underwriting strategies, with a focus on Professional Indemnity.

Beazleigh said Quigan’s appointment is part of Markel’s strategy to “hire strong talent” across its three Australian offices. “With Joanna coming on board, we now have a fully empowered underwriting team in Victoria across our core product lines of Management Liability, Financial Institutions, and Professional Indemnity,” he added.

Prior to her time at Delta, Quigan also held roles at Marsh & McLennan, the Insurance Council of New Zealand, and AIG.

Markel has recently announced several key appointments in the Asia Pacific, including that of Sucheng Chang as Managing Director for APAC last month.

Jasminder Kaur was also named Country Head in Malaysia this week, as part of the business’s growth strategy in the country, while Collin Sim was recently appointed as the business’s first Singapore-based Casualty Underwriter.
