Alberto Estévez Allegue has been appointed Chief Representative Officer of MAPFRE RE’s Representative Office in Tokyo, the global reinsurer announced in a company statement on LinkedIn on Tuesday.

The appointment, effective as of 1 July 2024, will see Allegue bring his over 12 years of experience within the MAPFRE group to the new role.

His career began with the group in 2012 at MAPFRE Warranty Japan, where he served as Finance and Strategic Planning Manager for the APAC region. His other roles within the business include Administration and Finance Regional Manager for the APAC regional team in China (2014) and Administration and Finance Manager of Asia within the MAPFRE Group EURASIA Region (2018).

Before his most recent promotion, he was the Project Expert Manager at MAPFRE RE’s APAC Regional Management team in Madrid.

Commenting on the appointment, Javier Sánchez Cea, MAPFRE RE’s Regional Chief Officer for APAC, said, “Our representative office in Japan underscores our dedication to our clients in this crucial market. Alberto’s expertise will further deepen these client relationships.”

This appointment comes less than a week after MAPFRE RE announced it had received approval for its onshore branch in China, reflecting the reinsurer’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its presence in the Asia Pacific markets.
