Marsh has promoted Justin Ward to CEO of Guy Carpenter Pacific and appointed reinsurance veteran James Beedle to the broker’s Pacific board, the global broker announced today (27 August).
Ward’s appointment is effective immediately. He reports to Tony Gallagher, CEO of Guy Carpenter Asia Pacific, and will relocate to Sydney from Singapore in July 2027.
In his new role, Ward will lead the reinsurance broking organisation in the Pacific and work with James Sullivan, head of broking for Guy Carpenter Pacific, and with Marsh’s regional leadership team. He succeeds Ben Savill, who will become Swiss Re’s CEO for Australia and New Zealand on 1 October.
Ward joined Guy Carpenter in 2018 and has held senior broking roles in both Sydney and Singapore. Most recently, he served as Capital Advisory Leader for Asia Pacific, a position he has held since 2024. He will continue in that role until July 2027.
Before joining Guy Carpenter, Ward held senior positions at Insurance Australia Group, National Australia Bank and AMP across reinsurance, financial planning and risk advisory.
Experienced Beedle to join board
Marsh also announced the appointment of James Beedle to Guy Carpenter Pacific’s board of directors, subject to regulatory approval.
Beedle has more than 36 years in reinsurance as a broker and underwriter, across London, Sydney, Tokyo and Singapore. He retired as PartnerRe’s Asia Pacific chief executive on 1 July, also stepping down as chair of the Singapore Reinsurers’ Association at the time.
Commenting on the appointments, Gallagher said the strengthened leadership team would help Guy Carpenter respond to increasingly complex market conditions.
“With our strengthened management team, led by Justin in Pacific, and the addition of James to our board of directors, Guy Carpenter is well placed to help clients across Asia Pacific navigate a market shaped by elevated catastrophe risk, evolving regulation, and growing demand for tailored analytics and advisory support,” Gallagher said.
The appointments come as Guy Carpenter undergoes a rename to Marsh Re, part of the group-wide switch to the Marsh brand announced in October last year.
