MSIG Asia has appointed Ronak Shah as regional chief executive officer, effective 1 Oct 2026, the insurer announced on Tuesday.
He succeeds Clemens Philippi, who became co-chief strategy officer of MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings (MS&AD) in April to lead the group’s international business strategy.
Shah joins from QBE Asia, where he held several senior leadership posts. He most recently served as CEO of Wholesale Markets Asia and previously led the Singapore business as country CEO.
He has more than two decades of experience in the insurance industry in Asia and North America, and has led business transformation, built specialty insurance capabilities and formed relationships with customers, partners and industry stakeholders across both regions.
Shah also previously served as president of the General Insurance Association of Singapore. He was also part of numerous insurance organisations in the region, including the ASEAN Insurance Council and the East Asian Insurance Congress, among other organisations.
In his new role, Shah will lead MSIG Asia operations across Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, India and Oceania, and will also take on regional leadership for Mainland China, Taiwan and Korea.
MSIG Asia said the wider mandate reflects its move towards greater strategic alignment across Asia Pacific.
Hironori Morimoto, group chief global officer and senior managing executive officer of MS&AD, said that Shah brings deep regional expertise, strategic insights and a strong track record of delivering results across complex and dynamic markets. “We are confident he will build on MSIG’s strong heritage and presence across Asia, and lead MSIG Asia through its next phase of growth and value creation.”
Speaking on Philippi’s contributions, Morimoto added, “We also thank Clemens for his contribution to the development of our Asia business, and I look forward to his continued leadership in his new role as the Group’s International Business Co-Chief Strategy Officer.”
Shah’s appointment is the latest in a series of leadership changes recently announced by MSIG in the region, including naming Kensuke Hirai as managing director and See Teck Yang as vice president for corporate distribution, both for Singapore, as well as Masanori Ishibashi as Deputy CEO in Hong Kong.
