Munich Re on Thursday announced the appointments of a new management team to lead its Cyber business in Asia-Pacific and Africa, with Marco Petrovic to serve as head of cyber Asia (excluding Greater China), and Johanna Roman to lead cyber for Australasia, Greater China, and Africa.

Petrovic has worked at Munich Re since 2005 in roles across casualty and cyber underwriting, including business development. Most recently, he led Munich Re’s cyber business across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa from Munich.

In August, Petrovic will relocate to Singapore, reporting to Haruka Narahashi, head of treaty underwriting for Korea & Japan, and cyber Asia (excluding Greater China).

Johanna Roman, who will take up her new role from 1 July, joined Munich Re in 2022 as casualty & cyber underwriting manager, Australasia, and brings over 20 years of experience in the reinsurance market, with roles in reinsurance purchasing, claims, and underwriting.

She is based in Sydney and reports to Kitty Ho, Head of Underwriting, Australasia.

Speaking on his regional appointment, Petrovic said that while mature markets benefit from broader claims experience and greater transparency, limited loss data in less mature markets shouldn’t be mistaken for lower exposure. “These markets require even stronger underwriting discipline and careful risk selection. Narrowing the Cyber protection gap sustainably – which remains highest globally in Asia – will depend on combining technical rigour with insurance solutions that reflect how Cyber risks are evolving,” he added.

Romann added that while cyber insurance is poised to grow, closing the protection gap requires industry experts to align on risk insights, modelling, and disciplined capacity. “By leveraging strong underwriting expertise, threat intelligence, claims data analytics and advanced accumulation modelling, our team is committed to transforming evolving cyber threats and exposures into effective insurance solutions that meet the changing needs of clients across the Asia‑Pacific market,” she said.

The cyber leadership changes add to a series of Munich Re appointments across Asia Pacific this year. These include Gavin Maistry, who succeeded Daniel Cossette as Munich Re’s Life and Health chief for APAC MEA, Michaela Hannemann as head of non-life for Australasia, and Kevin Rethual as CEO of Munich Re Retakaful.

Stay ahead on the region’s key appointments.
