AIG has appointed Lisa Sun as president of Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, and chief executive of AIG Hong Kong, subject to regulatory approval.

Sun rejoined AIG in 2018 and has run its mainland China business as regional president and chief executive of AIG China, based in Shanghai. The new role adds Hong Kong and Macau to that remit.

She joined AIG from Mercer, where she was chief executive for Hong Kong and Asia, having previously served as chief executive and partner for the ASEAN market. Before Mercer, she was chairman for Hong Kong at Marsh & McLennan Companies.

Earlier in her career, she held several roles at Zurich, including head of protection proposition and senior actuary for global life in Asia Pacific and the Middle East. She also previously worked at AIG as deputy chief actuary.

Sun reports to Scott Leney, who became AIG’s regional president for Asia Pacific on 1 February after two years as head of APAC at Everest Insurance.

The Hong Kong seat has been open since Cynthia Sze, general manager for Hong Kong and Macau, left after more than 15 years at AIG to run Liberty’s combined Hong Kong operation in May.

Announcing the appointment on LinkedIn, Leney said it “marks an important step in aligning our business more closely across Asia, creating greater opportunities for seamless cross-border collaboration, innovation and growth.”

Alongside Sun, the insurer also appointed John Wu as the Interim Responsible Person for AIG China.

Wu has been with the company for nearly 20 years and has held a number of leadership positions, including manager of special risk and broker business, and head of personal insurance. He was appointed deputy general manager in 2025.

“Throughout his journey with AIG China, he has led the A&H team with entrepreneurial spirit, driving business growth and bringing fresh energy to the organization,” Sun said in a LinkedIn post about Wu’s new role.

The dual appointments follow a run of AIG hires across the region this year. The insurer named Tilden Goh head of energy for Asia Pacific and recruited Jeeranun Pitaksak from Chubb to head Southeast Asia partnerships in May, promoted Anouk Sireude to head of marine for the Pacific in July, and moved Igor Chichkan from Dubai to Singapore as regional underwriting manager for financial lines.
