Sompo has appointed Dave Wong as property underwriter for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, effective immediately, the firm announced on Tuesday.

Based in Hong Kong, Wong has more than 10 years of experience in general insurance, with expertise in property underwriting across multinational and domestic portfolios. He has also developed broker relationships across sectors including semiconductors, real estate, manufacturing, logistics and warehousing, Sompo said in a LinkedIn post.

Wong is the latest in a series of underwriting and distribution appointments in the region. In May, Sompo appointed Megan Yeung as senior casualty underwriter and Gally Wong as senior construction underwriter, both covering Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. Kelvin Woo also joined the business that month as chief distribution officer for the three markets.

Most recently, Canon Liu was appointed head of financial lines for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

The appointments come as Sompo reports stronger underwriting performance. For FY2025, insurance revenue rose 6.1% year-on-year to JPY5.37 trillion (US$33.7bn), while the insurance service result increased 93.4% to JPY588.2 billion from JPY304.2 billion a year earlier.

Separately, Sompo Japan announced on Monday a marine cyber insurance extension covering economic losses arising when radio interference disrupts navigation systems and prevents a vessel from operating. The cover became available in August 2026.
