NorthStandard has named Michael Hustler as its Head of Asia Pacific, effective October 27, the company announced on Monday, October 20. He succeeds David Roberts, who is leaving the business in February 2026.
Singapore-based Hustler first joined joined the P&I Club in 2009, starting within the claims team before moving to underwriting in 2013. Most recently, he has been serving as the firm’s Head of Underwriting for Asia Pacific.
In his new role he reports to Ed Davies, Chief Strategy Officer at NorthStandard. Commenting on the announcement, Davies underscored Hustler’s deep familiarity with NorthStandard’s regional business.
“[His] risk management expertise and understanding of member needs have been making a vital contribution to growing our Asia Pacific presence and relationships, while our underwriting strategy across the region has benefited significantly from his leadership,” Davies said.
Jeremy Grose, Managing Director at NorthStandard, added the appointment is vital for the future success of its P&I, FD&D, and specialist marine insurance lines in APAC. “[Hustler’s] appointment reflects our commitment to drive forward with our strategy to grow and serve these dynamic and diversified needs.”
The appointment reflects NorthStandard’s continued buildout in Asia, where it recently opened a new office in Imabari, Japan.
