Pacific life re announces key leadership changes for its asia pacific protection business

Pacific Life Re announced several key appointments within its Asia Pacific Protection business on Wednesday (14 August), with Tyson Johnston, Martyn Gilling, and Matthew Larkin all elevated into new roles.

Tyson Johnston, who has been serving as Managing Director of the Australian business and Head of Global Protection Strategy, has been promoted to Managing Director, Protection, Asia Pacific & Global Strategy for the reinsurer.

In this expanded role, Johnston will oversee the company’s growth in the Asia Pacific region and will continue to report to Andrew Gill, Executive Vice President of Global Protection, Pacific Life Re said in a media release.

Martyn Gilling, the current Head of Client Solutions in Australia, will take on many of Johnston’s previous duties in his new role as General Manager, Protection, Australia.

Gilling has over 25 years of experience in reinsurance markets both in Australia and internationally. He will now lead the Australian protection business, which will report to Johnston. The Asian protection business will continue to be led by Vasan Errakiah, who will also report to Johnston.

Additionally, Matthew Larkin will step into the role of Head of Client Solutions, Australia, where he will lead the company’s protection market strategy and sales initiatives.

Andrew Gill commented, “Over the last seven years, Tyson has demonstrated excellent strategic leadership and we’re confident he will drive our growth in the Asia Pacific region. I am also very pleased to be in a position to be able to promote from within and utilise the deep experience and talent that both Martyn and Matthew offer.”
