PartnerRe has named Ankur Gupta as Chief Executive Officer for India, the reinsurer said in a statement on LinkedIn on Thursday.

Gupta joins from Munich Re, where he spent nine years and most recently served as head of client management in Mumbai. Before that, he spent more than seven years at ICICI Lombard General Insurance, including as vice president in the international business group.

“I am delighted to welcome Ankur Gupta as PartnerRe’s CEO India. Ankur brings over 20 years of industry experience spanning reinsurance, primary insurance and broking,” said Sasa Hu, chief executive officer, property and casualty, Asia Pacific at PartnerRe. “I’m pleased to have a leader of his calibre strengthen our support to clients and partners in India.”

Gupta’s appointment comes amid a series of key changes by PartnerRe in the region this year, with Hu, David Xu and John Mok all stepping into expanded roles on 1 Jul 2026 following the retirement of former APAC chief James Beedle.

The reinsurer also formally entered India in February 2026, when the Bermuda-based, Covéa-backed reinsurer secured approval from the International Financial Services Centres Authority to open a branch in GIFT City.

Premiums transacted through GIFT City, which houses India’s International Financial Services Centre, nearly doubled to US$1.13bn in the financial year to March 2026, according to IFSCA data, with reinsurance premiums rising more than fourfold to US$607.96m.
