Taikang Insurance Group founder Chen Dongsheng has stepped down as Chief Executive Officer, with President Liu Tingjun succeeding him as the Chinese insurer marks its 30th anniversary.

Dongsheng will remain chairman, continuing to oversee the group’s corporate strategy, risk management and major decision-making, the company said in a statement. The governance change is part of a planned leadership transition aimed at advancing Taikang’s “new life insurance strategy”.

Tingjun’s appointment as CEO was approved by Taikang’s board of directors at a meeting on 20 August.

A Taikang veteran of nearly three decades, Tingjun has held a series of senior leadership roles across the group’s insurance, asset management and healthcare businesses. He has served as President and COO of Taikang Insurance Group since December 2019.

The company said Liu played a key role in building Taikang’s healthcare and elderly care strategy.

During his time at the group, he has also been COO of Taikang Asset Management, vice president of Taikang Life, CEO of Taikang Home and Taikang Health Investment, and chairman of Taikang Online.

Following the leadership transition, Taikang said its management team remains stable and business operations continue as normal.
