Prudential Plc on Monday announced it had appointed Ray Farris to the newly-created role of Chief Economist for both Prudential and its asset management arm, Eastspring Investments.

Based in Singapore, Farris joins the company after nearly 23 years at Credit Suisse in various leadership roles, including as Global Chief Economist and Chief Investment Officer for the Americas based in New York City.

In his role, Farris will provide macroeconomic views and research with a perspective on the global economic and geopolitical landscape, as well as formulate economic analysis and insights for both Prudential and Eastspring, the company said in a statement. He reports to Vis Nayar, Chief Investment Officer of Eastspring Investments.

Farris brings over 34 years of experience as an economist and strategist for international financial services firms. He began his career in Hong Kong in 1991 as Head of Economics and Equity Strategy at Crosby Securities Limited. Farris also previously served in ING Barings and BZW Asia, according to LinkedIn.

Farris holds a master’s degree in finance from London Business School and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of North Carolina.

“Ray joins us at a pivotal time, against a global macroeconomic backdrop marked by heightened uncertainty and complexity,” said Bill Maldonado, Chief Executive Officer at Eastspring Investments. “Ray’s breadth and depth of experience, coupled with his understanding of global economics and markets, will be invaluable to our investment teams and clients.”
