QBE Asia has appointed Jef Tio (Soon Keong T.) as Chief Executive Officer of QBE Insurance Malaysia, effective September 1st 2025, the company said in a LinkedIn post on Tuesday.

He succeeds Sunther Kuppan, who is retiring after 11 years with the company.

Tio brings more than 20 years of experience in the general insurance sector across Malaysia and Cambodia. Most recently, he was CEO of Campu Lonpac Insurance in Phnom Penh. Earlier in his career, he held senior leadership positions at Great Eastern, Tokio Marine, Zurich, AIG, and Allianz in Malaysia.

QBE said Kuppan’s leadership was instrumental in shaping the Malaysia unit’s journey and thanked him for his commitment and contributions.

The appointment follows a series of senior leadership changes at QBE in Asia. On August 26th, the insurer named Stephen Geisler as CEO of South Asia and Ross Bethell as Head of Partnerships for Asia, strengthening its executive team in the region.
