Willis Re has named Richard Jones as head of its Asia operations, effective October 2026 and subject to regulatory approval, the reinsurance broker said on Thursday.
Based in Singapore, Jones will bring almost 40 years of experience in international reinsurance broking, having held senior leadership roles focused across Asia.
Most recently, he served as APAC chairman at Gallagher Re, a role he took up in February. Before that, he was CEO of Asia Reinsurance Solutions at Aon. He also spent more than three decades at Guy Carpenter, where he held roles including Singapore CEO and Asia Pacific chairman.
“We are thrilled to have Richard join the Willis Re team to lead the establishment of our activities in Asia,” Lucy Clarke, Board Member of Willis Re, said. “His regional knowledge and proven track record in shaping and executing strategy will be critical as we build our market presence.”
The appointment underscores the ambitions of the relaunched Willis Re, which returned to the treaty reinsurance market in December 2024 as a joint venture between Bain Capital and WTW, with WTW holding a minority stake. The broker has described its growth strategy as primarily organic, recruiting experienced producers and leveraging WTW’s global retail network.
Jones’s hire adds a notable name to that effort — and a familiar one to the Asia reinsurance market.
