Sompo has named Alessandrea (Alessa) Quane as Chief Executive Officer of International Markets, subject to regulatory approval, according to a press release on 18 September.
Quane joins the company from Oscar Health, where she was Chief Insurance Officer for more than four years. She also recently served as an independent director on the board of AXA XL Bermuda.
In her new role, she will report directly to James Shea, Chief Executive Officer of Sompo P&C, and oversee the group’s commercial and consumer insurance operations across international markets, including the Asia-Pacific region (excluding Japan), the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, and Brazil.
Bringing more than three decades of experience to the position, Quane began her career as an actuary with Allstate Insurance. She has since held senior leadership roles, including Global Corporate Chief Actuary and Chief Risk Officer for AIG. Her career has encompassed oversight of international portfolios across multiple business lines and regulatory jurisdictions.

This announcement follows several other key appointments made by Sompo in September. In Japan, the company has named Heiko Thienenkamp as COO, Commercial Business and Hiroki Ohashi as Head of Financial Lines. Sompo APAC also made three key finance appointments, including See Ju Chua as Head of Capital Management.
