Specialist Risk Group (SRG) has appointed Richard Gurney as head of specialty, a newly created role focused on developing the broker’s international specialty proposition.
Gurney joins SRG from Marsh, where he most recently served as global head of construction. He brings over 20 years of experience across claims, global construction, and specialty placements, including designing and delivering multi-territory programmes for international clients. In addition to Marsh, he worked for the JLT Group for over 12 years and at Allianz early in his career.
In his new role, Gurney will be responsible for expanding the group’s existing specialty offerings and identifying new areas for investment. He will also join SRG’s group executive committee.
Commenting on the appointment, Warren Downey, SRG’s group CEO, noted that Gurney brings extensive specialty experience and that having him join the leadership team marks an “important milestone in the next phase of SRG’s development.”
The move comes after the business officially launched in APAC in March last year, with Singapore as its regional hub.
