XS Global Asia Pacific has appointed Mark O’Brien as a treaty underwriter, the specialty (re)insurance managing general agent (MGA) announced on LinkedIn on Wednesday.
O’Brien has moved from Singapore to London to take up the new role. He brings 30 years of experience in Asia’s reinsurance markets and joins from Gallagher Re, where he most recently served as head of Asia-Pacific, leading a team of more than 300 across the region.
He moved to Gallagher Re in 2022 after Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. acquired Willis Re. He had spent nearly three decades with the Willis group, where he held several Asia-focused roles across postings in London, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
“We are thrilled to have Mark on board as we continue to grow our presence and capabilities across Asian reinsurance markets,” XS Global said in its announcement.
O’Brien’s move comes after the MGA launched its Hong Kong unit in December in a bid to expand its presence in Asia-Pacific. Since then, the business has announced a series of region-focused positions, including both Phillip Brain and Mun Ching Shing as regional accident and health underwriting managers, Wendy Law as regional casualty underwriting manager, and Nicholas O’Neil as regional property underwriting manager.
