Zurich Insurance Group has appointed Amit Kalra as head of Zurich Capability Centres, effective 1 July 2026, coinciding with the launch of its new Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad, India.
In his new role, Kalra will lead the expansion of the new hub as a core pillar of Zurich’s operating model, as the insurer reinforces its focus on advancing technology and AI capabilities.
He Kalra joins from Swiss Re, where he spent more than 19 years and most recently served as head of global business solutions. He brings more than 23 years of experience across (re)insurance and financial services, with solid expertise in strategic leadership, large‑scale transformation, and building global capability centres as strategic business and technology engines. He has had prior stints at NASSCOM, Birla Institute of Management Technology, Swiss Indian Chamber of Commerce, and GE Capital International / GE Insurance Solutions.
“Mr. Kalra brings extensive experience in building and leading global capability centres as strategic enablers for complex, international organisations,” Zurich said.
The Hyderabad centre will serve as a strategic extension of Zurich’s global operations, with end-to-end ownership across engineering, data, and core business functions, embedding AI-enabled ways of working on solutions from inception to expansion across the Group.
“India is a key talent market for Zurich, and Hyderabad stands out for its depth of engineering expertise and innovation,” said Cara Morton, CEO of Zurich Global Businesses & Operations.
Kalra’s move follows several appointments by the Group within Asia over the last month: Marcus Seow as senior underwriter for marine; Digbijoy Joseph Shukla as head of digital for Asia-Pacific, succeeding Roopa Malhotra, who is moving to Zurich’s Japan business for a senior executive role; and Cheryn Wong as senior casualty underwriter.
