Swiss Re has announced the appointment of Ali Shahkarami as Global Head of Property, Specialty and Casualty Solutions for its new Reinsurance Solutions division.
Shahkarami, who will be based in Munich, will lead a global team of insurance and data experts to provide cutting-edge solutions across the entire Property, Specialty and Casualty (P&C) value chain. He will report to Russell Higginbotham, CEO of Reinsurance Solutions, and the appointment is effective July 1st 2023.

Shahkarami joins Swiss Re from Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS), where he was Chief Data Officer. He previously held various leadership positions at AGCS, ranging from catastrophe risk modelling and research to innovating technology solutions for underwriting use cases and processes. Prior to AGCS, he was a Lead CAT Risk Modeler at RMS, a software and technology company focused on catastrophe risks.
Shahkarami's journey to Global Head of P&C Solutions
Shahkarami is a civil engineer with a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the University of British Columbia, Canada. He has extensive experience in the fields of structural engineering and material science, particularly in the aerospace sector.
His education and expertise in NatCat and data analytics make him an ideal candidate to drive meaningful change in his new role.
