Sompo Hong Kong will implement a new strategic underwriting leadership structure, effective January 1, 2026, according to a company statement on LinkedIn on Wednesday.
In line with the changes, Ophelia Szeto has been named head of property & construction, and Jessica Lai as head of mid-Corp & SME.
Szeto’s role will see her oversee property & construction across Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. She is currently vice president, property Senior underwriter for APAC, and she will continue to provide technical underwriting support for the region, Sompo said.
In her new role, Szeto will report to Alasdair Walker, CEO of Sompo Hong Kong, as well as Li Lian Soong, APAC head of property, as part of a matrix reporting line.
Lai, meanwhile, has been with Sompo Hong Kong since 2022, including most recently as head of commercial underwriting. In her new position, she will oversee Sompo Hong Kong’s mid-corporate and SME portfolio and will continue to report to Walker.
“These changes reflect Sompo’s commitment to investing in talent, driving operational excellence, and delivering exceptional value to our partners and clients,” Sompo said in its statement, adding that the new leadership team will help “accelerate growth, leverage underwriting capabilities, and deliver solutions that meet the evolving needs of businesses.”
The announcements follow other recent leadership appointments by Sompo in the region over the last two months, including Alan Lang as Head of Operations in Hong Kong, Leo Jun Liu as Chief Consumer Officer in China, Linda Ng as Head of Property & Multi-Lines in Singapore, and Li Li Leong’s promotion to Head of Actuarial at Sompo Singapore.
