Sompo has appointed Clara Yip as head of marine for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, and regional logistics leader, effective 17 December, the company announced on LinkedIn on Wednesday.
Hong Kong-based Yip joins from QBE, where she was product lead for marine cargo.
In her new role, she reports to Alasdair Walker, CEO of Sompo Hong Kong, with a matrix reporting line to Dave Ong, head of marine and aviation for Asia-Pacific.
Yip, currently a member of the International Union of Marine Insurance committee, brings over 15 years of experience in marine underwriting. Prior to QBE, she held positions at Aon, ACE Group, and FP Marine Risks.
“[Yip] will be leading the marine underwriting team to play a key role in shaping our marine and logistics business for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, while supporting the APAC region in driving scale and sustainable growth,” the insurer said.
Sompo Hong Kong also announced it had appointed Catherine Ho as senior marine underwriter, effective 22 December.
Ho will report to Yip and “will play a key role in driving new business development to support the continued growth of Hong Kong’s marine portfolio,” Sompo said.
The appointments are the latest in a series of moves by the business in Hong Kong over the last month, including the designation of Ophelia Szeto as head of property and construction, Jessica Lai as head of mid-corp and SME, and Alan Lang as head of operations.
