Markel Insurance has appointed Mark Christen as Senior Claims Adjuster in its Professional and Financial Risks (PFR) team, effective immediately, the specialty insurer announced on Wednesday.

Based in Sydney, Christen reports to Lisa Mitchell, head of claims, Australia. He joins Markel from AXA XL Australia, where he spent two and a half years, most recently serving as senior cyber and technology claims specialist. Prior to that, he had worked as a PFR claims specialist at Chubb Insurance.

“We’re delighted that Mark has chosen to join us at Markel,” Mitchell said. “He has a breadth of experience in specialty product lines and his appointment reinforces our commitment to providing a customer-focused and value-adding specialist claims service.”

“Having a locally-based PFR claims specialist enhances the way underwriting and claims work together,” Kym Beazleigh, Head of Professional and Financial Risks for Australia, added. “When those teams are closely aligned, we gain sharper insight, make faster and more informed decisions, and deliver a smoother experience for brokers and customers.”

Christen’s appointment comes after the specialty insurer last month appointed Flora Mao as its first casualty in China.
