Generali Global Corporate & Commercial (GC&C) Asia has appointed Kai Ao as its new Head of Business Development, the insurer said in a statement on Monday.

He joins the business after over three years at Zurich, where he was an execution manager for commercial insurance in Asia. His previous experience includes time at brokers Marsh, WTW, and Aon.

“Kai brings extensive experience in commercial insurance across the region, combining a strong strategic mindset with hands-on expertise in business development,” Generali said. “In his new role, Kai will focus on further accelerating our business development strategy across Asia.”

The appointment comes amid an expansion of digital capabilities for Generali’s commercial unit. Last month, GC&C launched MetaRELP, a platform that uses immersive and augmented reality technology to support risk engineering training and loss prevention across complex industrial environments.

Earlier in February, Generali also launched GlobalTracer, an AI-powered system that uses generative AI to verify policy terms and identify discrepancies across multinational and captive programmes. Both initiatives form part of the company’s Next Level Plan 2025–27.
