Swiss Re has appointed Hazel Etherington as head of underwriting, life & health, for Hong Kong and Taiwan and global high net worth, according to a LinkedIn announcement by Torben Swart, the reinsurer’s head of life & health reinsurance for Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Based in Hong Kong, Etherington returns to Swiss Re from Just Group, where she had worked for over three years, most recently as retail operations and underwriting director. Early in her career, she spent more than 21 years with the reinsurer, including as chief underwriter for Asia.
“Hazel brings nearly 40 years of experience in the life and health insurance industry, with leadership roles spanning underwriting, operations, claims, distribution and business transformation across multiple international markets,” Swart said in the announcement.
The appointment comes as Swiss Re continues to strengthen its leadership with the promotions of Yusuke Matsumoto to head of facultative reinsurance APAC and Trent Thomson to head of global specialty, as well as the appointment of Zoe Pearn as head of operations for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in Australia and New Zealand.
