Markel Insurance has appointed Sarika Sagar Gadekar as a claims adjuster in Mumbai, effective immediately, the specialty insurer announced on Monday.
She brings more than six years of maritime claims experience and joins from CMA CGM Global Business Services India, where she was associate manager, legal, for shipping and logistics, and led the maritime legal claims function across cargo, container, liability and protection and indemnity matters.
She reports to Bo Yu, head of claims for Asia, and in her new role will be responsible for claims arising from Markel’s India portfolio across transport, logistics, cargo and specie risks.
Yu said: “I’m delighted to welcome Sarika to the Asia claims team. As our locally based claims professional in India, her appointment is an important step in bringing decision making closer to our brokers and clients in one of Asia’s most important growth markets.”
Deepika Mathur, country head for India, added that Gadekar is a welcome addition to the local team. “This is a meaningful investment in local talent and in the long-term future of our India business,” she added.
The appointment follows a run of hires as Markel continues to strengthen its presence in Asia Pacific. The specialty insurer recently appointed Henry Ang as head of terrorism in Singapore, and Matthew Stock as head of its newly launched fine art and specie unit in Australia.
