QBE has promoted Angus Cheung as market lead, hull and liability, North Asia, taking charge of the portfolio across Greater China, Vietnam, and Japan.
Cheung has spent nine years at QBE and is elevated from his position as market lead, hull and liability – marine risks, for Hong Kong. Before joining the business, he worked at Chubb for four years within the marine unit.
“He combines deep technical underwriting expertise with strong commercial judgement and portfolio management capabilities, and has played a key role in driving sustainable, profitable growth,” QBE said in its announcement on LinkedIn.
The appointment is the latest in a series of marine leadership moves by QBE in Asia. This week, the insurer named James Lo as market lead for cargo and marine underwriting in Hong Kong, and in June it appointed Callum O’Brien as head of P&I for Asia.
The reshaping extends beyond the marine book: QBE Asia this month appointed Siang Leng Tay as interim chief executive of wholesale markets, expanded Evariste Yeung’s remit to cover motor, accident and health, and householder across Asia, and named Patrick Karlowski and Florence Chan as their new chief operating officer and head of data for the region.
