QBE has appointed James Lo as Market Lead for Cargo and Marine, Underwriting in Hong Kong, the insurer announced on Tuesday via LinkedIn.

Lo joins QBE after more than 12 years at HDI Global, where he held senior underwriting roles, most recently as head of marine for North Asia. In total, he brings more than 18 years of experience spanning marine insurance, shipping, logistics and transportation.

“In this role, James will lead QBE Hong Kong’s Cargo and Marine underwriting strategy, drawing on his deep sector expertise and commercial insight to strengthen QBE’s market proposition,” the insurer said.

His appointment comes after QBE Asia earlier today announced that Siang Leng Tay would become interim CEO of wholesale markets. Lo’s move also builds on other recent and key regional appointments by QBE, including Mandy Chan as head of operational power generation and ESG and Chai Guan Lim as head of distribution for Malaysia.
