Swiss Re has appointed Iris Cheung as head of life & health reinsurance for Hong Kong and Taiwan, effective 1 Nov 2026, the reinsurer said on Tuesday (8 September).
Cheung succeeds Torben Swart, who moved into a newly created technical and operational excellence role in August.
She has spent 15 years at Swiss Re, most recently as key account manager, director, globals, based in Hong Kong, where she ran several of the reinsurer’s strategic client relationships across Asia Pacific. Cheung joined in 2011 as finance controller for Asia, then served as strategy and operations manager for life & health in Asia before becoming vice-president and client manager for life & health in Hong Kong and Taiwan in 2015.
She brings more than two decades of experience across advisory, finance, strategy, operations and client management. Before Swiss Re she worked in KPMG’s risk advisory team. Cheung is also a certified public accountant with the HKICPA and holds a BSc in mathematics and statistics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
The appointment follows other senior regional life & health changes at the reinsurer this year, including Karen Tan’s elevation to chief underwriting officer of L&H Re and Hazel Etherington’s return as head of underwriting for Hong Kong, Taiwan and global high net worth.
