MDS Group, a multinational brokerage and part of Ardonagh Group, has appointed former Nova Insurance Group Managing Director Patrick Chan as senior adviser for international development to support its ambitions across established markets, according to a company announcement.
Chan joined the group in September and will support the execution of MDS’s growth strategy across the regions where it operates, including Iberia, Latin America and Africa. Chan will focus on developing new business opportunities and connecting clients with MDS’s local expertise and service capabilities across its international network.
The industry veteran brings more than 35 years of experience to the group. In June 2025, Chan retired as MD of Hong Kong-based Nova Insurance Group, one of the territory’s largest independent insurance brokers.
José Manuel Fonseca, CEO of MDS Group, said: “The ability to attract such a well-respected professional as Patrick out of retirement to support the execution of our strategic ambitions in the markets in which we already operate is testimony to how far MDS Group has come over the last decades.”
Prior to Nova, he held senior positions at Swire Insurance Brokers, where he led the firm’s direct broking and China operations. He also held bancassurance roles at Standard Chartered Bank. His experience spans construction, property, casualty, financial lines and aviation insurance, with particular expertise supporting clients investing in China.
Chan is well known to MDS through Brokerslink, the global broking network in which MDS is a major shareholder and partner. He has been involved with Brokerslink since 2007 and chaired the network’s global conference when it returned to Hong Kong in 2018.
Beyond his executive roles, Chan previously served as chairman of the Hong Kong Confederation of Insurance Brokers and is a longstanding member of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance’s Hong Kong Member Advisory Board.
Chan is also a member of the Hong Kong Academy of Finance and previously served on the Insurance Authority working group established by the Hong Kong government to support the transition to the current insurance regulatory regime.
