Howden has appointed Abhinav Gujral as president and head of strategic initiatives for employee benefits in India, the insurance broker announced on Wednesday.

Gujral joins Howden after over two years at Gallagher, where he most recently served as head of the employee health & benefits practice. He also previously held leadership roles at Assurekit Technologies, HealthIndia Insurance TPA Service, and Marsh & McLennan Companies.

“Based in Mumbai, Abhinav brings over two decades of experience across the insurance ecosystem, with deep expertise in employee benefits, health insurance, business development, corporate relationships, and risk consulting,” London-headquartered Howden said in a LinkedIn post.

In his new role, Gujral will focus on client services, innovation, and improving the firm’s proposition.

This move follows a series of recent senior hires by Howden across Asia, including the appointment of Akihisa Hirata as head of construction & infrastructure assets for Japan last month. In July, the insurance broker hired Maisie Ng as director, structured credit, North Asia and added Eugene Wong, Alan Sze, Kyle Ng and Jason Lam to its Hong Kong team.

In March, Howden restructured its regional broking operations, folding its India business into the Asia region as part of a wider realignment it says will bring its capabilities closer to clients.
