Howden has announced the launch of Howden Re Taiwan, as part of the company’s broader strategy to enhance its footprint in Asia.
The new office will focus on treaty reinsurance and the reinsurance broker has appointed Jimmy Tsai as Managing Director to lead local operations. Tsai will commence his new role in June, bringing 15 years of experience in the Taiwanese and Asian reinsurance markets. He joins after an eight-year tenure with Gallagher Re.
Howden said that the team in Taiwan will receive support from across the wider Howden group, including regional analytics capabilities led by Emily Lo, who was appointed Head of Analytics for Howden Re Asia in February.
Andy Souter, Managing Director and Head of Asia-Pacific at Howden Re, commented, “Expanding in Asia-Pacific is a strategic priority for our international development, as we continue to build a market-leading reinsurance platform and team.”
This move follows Howden’s entry into Japan last year when it launched Howden Re and invested in Keystone ILS Capital.
