Markel Insurance has appointed Clarice Francis as Operations Manager for its War and Terrorism business, effective immediately, the specialty insurer announced in a media release on Monday.

London-based Francis joins from Hiscox, where she has worked for over six years, most recently as Operations Team Manager.

In her new role, she reports to Ed Winter, Director of Terrorism at Markel International and will work closely with regional leads in Asia, the UK, and the US to create new initiatives and drive efficiency across the business’s war and terrorism portfolio.

“We’re continuing to see the PV market face heightened demand amid rising global instability,” Winter said. “Clarice will be pivotal in not only strengthening the team’s ability to manage complex risks more effectively, but also in developing new efficiencies within our global team and deepening broker relationships to bring innovative ideas and projects to fruition.”

Francis’ arrival follows a series of recent moves by the insurer in the Asia Pacific region. In July, the business announced that Sucheng Chang had moved from Aon as its new Managing Director (MD) for the region, following Christian Stobbs’ promotion to Chief Strategy and Corporate Development Officer. The same month Chelsea Jiang moved from AXA as MD for Greater China. More recently, Markel hired Tim Wills from Tokio Marine Kiln as Head of Marine for its Australian unit as part of an expansion of its product offering in the country.

The moves reflect the insurer’s ongoing efforts to improve its specialty lines across key markets following its exit from reinsurance earlier this year.
