AXA XL elevates Julian Longbottom to global head of marine and energy, reinsurance

AXA XL has promoted Julian Longbottom to global head of marine and energy, reinsurance, effective 1 January 2026, the London-based reinsurer announced in a 14 January news release.

Longbottom has been with AXA XL for over 10 years and brings cross-product capabilities and sector expertise in growth, client solutions, and strategic development across key markets.

In his new role, Longbottom leads the group’s global strategy for its marine and energy reinsurance operations, with a focus on integrating regional expertise into the firm’s broader risk appetite.

His responsibilities include overseeing expansion into strategic territories, notably Japan, where AXA XL has been expanding its marine and energy footprint.

Commenting on the appointment, Bertrand Romagne, CEO for reinsurance, international, at AXA XL, said Longbottom’s “deep expertise in the marine and energy sector has been instrumental in driving growth and delivering tailored solutions for clients over the past decade.”
