AXA XL has appointed Markus Posberg as chief underwriting officer, property, construction and energy for APAC and Europe, the insurer said on Tuesday.

Posberg will be based in Cologne and will oversee underwriting strategy for the property, construction and energy lines across Europe, Asia and Australia.

He joined AXA Corporate Solutions in 2018 and has run underwriting for Germany since 2021, with responsibility for the German property, construction and energy portfolio.

Before joining AXA Corporate Solutions, he held senior underwriting and leadership roles at QBE, MONTAN and HDI, and has more than 30 years’ experience in commercial property, construction and energy insurance. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

“Across Europe, and increasingly across APAC, significant investment in energy and digital infrastructure, including the rapid growth of data centres, is creating a new generation of complex, interconnected property risks,” said Adias Gerbaud, chief underwriting officer, APAC and Europe at AXA XL.

Posberg’s hire comes after the specialty (re)insurer last week brought Augustin Gas back to Singapore to head its Asia reinsurance unit.
