Sompo Asia Pacific has appointed Joe Wee as head of construction underwriting for APAC in an expanded role, the insurer announced on Wednesday.
Based in Singapore, Wee joins Sompo after more than eight years at Zurich Insurance, where he most recently served as head of engineering lines. He also previously held related roles at Talbot Underwriting and Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty.
He brings 26 years of insurance industry experience, specialising in engineering and construction risks.
Wee will “lead underwriting performance and P&L management across our multi-country Construction portfolio, while setting underwriting standards, driving market engagement, and partnering with executive leadership to shape our long-term strategy in one of APAC’s most dynamic and fast-growing markets,” Sompo said in its announcement.
The appointment follows other recent leadership hires at Sompo, including Hairolnizam Sapian as APAC head of partnerships development. The insurer also recently named Cedric Wong senior underwriter, financial lines, and Winnie Chau senior financial lines underwriter, both for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
