Chubb has appointed Ben Howell as Country President for Australia and New Zealand, effective September 1, subject to regulatory approval, the global insurer announced in a company statement.
Howell is currently the Head of Consumer for Asia Pacific and is based in Singapore, responsible for leading and owning the P&L for the Accident & Health division across 14 countries and territories in the region.
In his new role, Howell will oversee Chubb’s P&C and personal lines operations across the ANZ region. He will continue to report to Marcos Gunn, the recently appointed Regional President, Asia Pacific, and succeeds Peter Kelaher, who has been appointed Division President of Continental Europe, Middle East and North Africa at Chubb.
“Ben is a highly respected insurance professional with a wealth of experience gained while working in Australia and across the Asia Pacific region,” said Gunn.
“With a proven track record of leading high-performing teams and driving business innovation while delivering profitable growth, Ben is well placed to further elevate our general insurance business in Australia and New Zealand.”
Howell rejoined Chubb in 2016 and held several senior roles before his most recent promotion, including Head of Accident & Health, APAC, and Deputy Head of Accident & Health for APAC.
He originally began his career with Chubb in Sydney in 2002 as a Financial Institutions Underwriting Manager. From 2005 to 2008, he worked with AIG in Singapore and Hong Kong before joining Allied World, where he spent nearly eight years across various senior roles. In 2016, he returned to Chubb, rejoining the firm in Melbourne, initially as Global Broker Unit Manager.
