Mark Butterworth has been appointed as Canopius Group’s Underwriter – Professional Lines, the specialty (re)insurer announced in a press release on 21 May.

Based in Melbourne, Butterworth brings over 20 years of experience in professional lines underwriting and joins from DUAL Australia, where he was also a financial lines underwriter. At Canopius, he reports to Rob Barnum, Underwriter – Professional Lines.

“Mark is a fantastic addition to our Professional Lines team and will play a key part in our continued growth in the market,” Barnum said, adding that there is a significant opportunity in the region’s PI and D&O market, where there is “strong demand for tailored, innovative solutions.”

In its announcement, the (re)insurer said the appointment supports its plan to grow its professional lines business in Australia and that Butterworth will have a focus on directors’ and officers’ (D&O) and professional indemnity (PI) insurance.

Expressing enthusiasm for the new role, Butterworth said he is “looking forward to connecting with brokers in the market to understand their challenges and work together to deliver solutions that drive meaningful results.”

Butterworth’s appointment follows the Lloyd’s underwriter’s announcement last month that QBE Insurance’s Andrew Ziolkowski will join to become its new Head of Australia and New Zealand, effective October.
